Dr. Domnica Fotino, MPH, IFMCP

Board Certified Internal Medicine

Dr. Fotino received her medical doctorate from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in Bronx, NY, completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Tulane University Health Sciences Center and is now Board Certified. Dr. Fotino has also obtained a Master of Public Health degree at Tulane School of Public Health with an emphasis on epidemiology. She graduated cum laude from Smith College in Northampton, MA, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a minor in Italian language and literature and concentration in music history. Dr. Fotino joined the Tulane University Health Sciences Center in 2004. She works as a Clinical Assistant Professor and regularly sees patients there. She works mostly in primary care, with time spent as a hospitalist at University Medical Center (formerly University Hospital).

In addition, Dr. Domnica Fotino has recently earned her certification as a Functional Medicine Practitioner through the Institute for Functional Medicine. This rigorous certification process includes extensive seminars, lectures, and case studies, culminating in a comprehensive examination. Functional medicine takes a holistic approach to health, focusing on the whole person rather than solely addressing symptoms. Practitioners delve into each patient’s unique health history, examining the interplay between environmental, lifestyle, and genetic factors that affect well-being. This approach empowers patients to actively participate in their health journey for more personalized and effective care.

Dr. Fotino has a special interest in incorporating nutrition into medical care. She grew up in Boulder, CO where from an early age she was exposed to a healthy lifestyle and to different approaches to healing and achieving well-being. She has attended several conferences on nutrition and Functional Medicine, and had the opportunity to observe a Chinese medicine practitioner with a particular emphasis on nutrition in Lima, Peru. Dr. Fotino has given lectures on nutrition at Tulane University and runs an elective for medical students on complementary treatments, including lectures on nutrition. Dr. Fotino is also currently completing a rigorous certification in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine.
